Trouble Accessing Your Account

You must be a student of the University of Minnesota, and be registered for Phys 3515 or 3516 to be eligible for a user account on the MPL computers.

The most common first problem with using your account is being unfamiliar with Windows NT, and logging in the first time.

  To login
Press the keys <Ctrl>,<Alt>, and <Delete> at the same time.
Enter your user name (given to you in class) in the top space
Press the <Tab> key (or use the mouse to place your cursor in the next box)
Enter your password (also provided in class)

The second most common problem is mistyping of either the name or password.

Caps (capital letters) are important, and not the same as lower case.  A very common problem is accidentally hitting the <Caps Lock> key.   Since the password is hidden, the only way to tell is by looking at the indicator light on the keyboard.

Warning:  If you log in incorrectly more than 3 times in a row, your account will be disabled temporarily.  To re-enable your account, contact Kurt Wick (see below) or any of the teaching staff.

If you are still having problems logging in, or have forgotten your login name or password,  you will have to contact Kurt Wick wick@physics.spa.umn.edu (624-2831) for more help.
